It's about 9:49 PM Wednesday and I'm outside on the
patio of my coffee shop of choice with an Amstel and my IPod going
through some old Dan Kennedy Inner Circle
Newsletters, when I'm interrupted by yet ANOTHER "NBT"
email that pops into my in-box... That probably puts
the count at around 15 since this morning.
"... Great Mike, but what the hell is NBT?"
Ahhh yes...
It stands for the "Next Big Thing".
And it's a DISEASE that infects all net workers
until they join at least 5 opportunities and never
make money.
It starts to dissipate at that time for some, but
will continue to cripple the minds of many more
for the remainder of their career, killing their
chance of every seeing success.
Today, I hope to immunize you from this disease
once and for all...
Understand this, and you will be cured:
* This industry will not save you.
* Your company will not save you.
* Your comp plan will not save you.
* There is no such thing as a "Turn Key" system
you can buy that will make you rich.
* There are thousands of companies that "are growing
faster than Microsoft!" (Not just yours...)
* It doesn't matter if you think you have the greatest
product in the world unless you plan on buying $50,000 or
more of it per month yourself... (All that matters is what
YOUR CUSTOMERS think about it).
* You are being sold by expert marketers, (the company leadership),
because they know that they must truly
MOVE your emotions just to get the average Joe
to sponsor 2 customers or builders.
Wake up Neo...
This is m-a-r-k-e-t-i-n-g and YOU are the product of
your company.
So here's the deal...
Lose the emotions. Lose the lottery dreams of the
The Next Big Thing. This is a BIZ-NESS where only
the fittest (and smartest) survive and thrive.
This is about smart marketing, promotion, and
follow up.
Lose the emotion. Get off the roller coaster.
Why? What's the big benefit?
Simple... It allows you to RELAX and focus
on the one thing that WILL make a difference
in your success without distraction:
YOU! It allows you to make decisions based on
the right business reasons like market demand.
Do you even know the market demand for your
companies product? Is there even a demand for it
or has your company created the illusion or promise
of demand to keep you starry eyed?
My point...
There are no free rides, and any "easy/lucky" rides
usually don't last long.
The irony is that anyone who makes money as an entrepreneur treats
their business like a JOB. Ha!
Now they may give themselves A LOT of perks and have
a sweet 10 second commute, but they still work as much
IF NOT MORE, than anyone in the "real world".
Trust me... The price that must be paid to enjoy these
perks is very high.
On the flip side, the average net worker treats this industry like a
weekend stint in front of a Vegas craps table, and as usual, always
leaves with empty pockets in the end.
Then...
As they pass by the calling neon signs of the another casino
promising the next big jack-pot, they latch on to their
sales pitch and hitch their dreams to it, only to be a victim of their
own refusal to "wake up", once again.
Use this knowledge to professionalize your business and discipline your
work ethic, and you will start to see results quickly.

CHRIS SHARKEY is 23. He has just got a cool $6 million plus, his share from
the sale of a holiday house booking website, Stayz.
Four years ago, having just graduated from high school in Newcastle, his
teacher parents were keen for Chris to attend university. That was before he
met the Hunts.
Audrey Hunt had a beach house at Amaroo Beach at Pacific Palms, three hours
north of Sydney, which she rented to holiday makers. Her husband Robert, an
electronics businessman, was convinced there had to be better way to manage
the numerous enquiries about the house and its availability. Chris was a
friend of a friend who had taught himself to program computers as a kid and
was asked if he could help.
Together they built and set up websites with a booking engine for holiday
houses. The site was hosted in Houston, Texas, and started by using houses the
Hunts' friends had in the Pacific Palms area.
It seemed to work but would obviously take time before it would pay its way.
The Hunts were convinced enough to offer Chris a stake in the business in
return for running the site.
As Robert tells it Audrey applied the "women's touch". "She knew what the
owners were looking for and designed the site on paper, Chris would then put
it into the computer,"
Working from a shed with goats wandering around a house in Dural, the early
years were tough. It was two years before the site started to make any sort of
money. Often working till four in the morning.
At one stage they had to take the site down after concerns about whether they
should have had a real estate licence. You need to be mentally tough to go
through the inevitable troughs you will come up against.
Hunt says they were never in it for the money, and even when Fairfax
(publisher of the Herald) approached him it took him a month to get back to
them.
Hunt reckoned it was time to get out, rather than find themselves in a battle
with the media giants. They opted to take the money - $12.7 million.
Sharkey and the Hunts are among a number of (mostly young) dotcom
entrepreneurs who are enjoying the fruits of the buying frenzy as media
companies across the world jockey for the best of the new internet businesses.
This week 30-year-old Kiwi, Sam Morgan, pocketed about $220 million for his
third of the New Zealand auction cum portal site, Trade Me, which he had sold,
again to Fairfax, for $675 million, the single biggest digital deal
