Website Tutorial - Inserting Links.
Inserting Links on
Website Pages and site Navigation.
First let's look at linking our pages within the site this
is also called site navigation. You want the visitors to your site to
be able to find all your pages.
Here are a couple of rules you should follow for optimal search engine
traffic and to qualify for Google Adsense publisher status [more on
that later.]
Every page on your site should have a link to the following pages:
- Index Page
- About or Contact Page
- Terms Of Service and Dissclaimer page [TOS]
- Privacy Policy page
- Your index page should link to a site map that links to all
the other pages on your site.
- If you have an online shop attached to the site link every
page on your site to the shop's index page.
A link is an address that points the browser to the page requested by
the visitor who clicked on the link. Linking the page they are on to
another page on your site or another site on the internet.
You can link to another page or site via:
- the link address itself also called a URL [Uniform Resourse
Locater] which would look like this if you used it on your page:
To Get the Big Picture On Internet Marketing and find out about how
URL's work go to:
http://www.kimbro.net/basics.html
Although this link will take the visitor to the correct page I do not
recommend you use raw URL's on your page as shown in the above example,
for several reasons:
Firstly you will notice that the meaning of the message does not tie in
well with the word "basic" in the URL.
This will not be attractive to your visitor and the search engines will
point people who are looking for "basic" to your site instead of people
who are interested in "Internet Marketing" - in short using a raw URL
on your pages can be unintentionally missleading. Also URL's can get
very long and cumbersome - look at this one for instance:
http://www.somethingspecialforyou.com/vbull/forumsubscription.php?do=verifysubscription&type=thread&
subscriptionid=513566&auth=0b85a8277c5cf3e9d9c5087224795660
A much better way would be to create a
text link like this:

the Big Picture On Internet Marketing
or an
image link

So let's start placing some site navigation links on your index page.
Lets pretend you are building a site on the topic of Fish and the
pages you want your visitors to visit after viewing your index
page are; A page about aquariums, a page about Fish Foods, a
page
about Fish health.
and lets assume you have named the files to these pages and they are
saved to your "My Website" folder on your desktop:
- Aquarium page file = aqua.html
- Fish Foods page file = ffood.html
- Fish Health page = fish_health.html
Place your curser in the navigation row below your header and type
Aquarium in bold text.
Highlight the word
Aquarium
and right mouse click on the highlighted word. Select "Create Lin
k" from the
drop down menu and the following box will appear: Fill in the link
location with the
file
name of your aquarium page and
target
the page to be opened in the same window. Hit OK and your navigation
text link has been created.
The
"About
Us" and most important pages for your visitors should go in
your
top navigation bars. The other pages we discussed earlier can go in
your "Footer" the last row in the table.

You can write some text here this area is outside of the image area.

| About Us | Aquarium |
Fish

This is
where I have started to type into the third row.
To indent my text, select the text and click on the green indent arrow
This is the result
of using the indent text option shown above.
Now all my text will align as indented to get my text to go back to the
border click on the back indent arrow.
Now my text has moved back to the border.
To create a numbered list or bullet list place curser at start of text
you want to list, click on either of these:
- using 123 list, hit enter and the second number will
come up automatically.
- hit enter - then type again and
- hit enter again -then type and
- so on - Komposer keeps adding a new number for you.
To stop it click on the 123 icon.
- Do the same for a bulleted list
- Just use the bullet icon instead of the 123 icon
Experiment to change the "Body Text" by using the following tools:

following are some results you'll get:
Header
Arial Bold Body Text.
Arial
Body Text
Arial
Body Text inclined
Arial
Body Text Underlined
Arial
Highlighted Body Text
Arial Bold Body Text. Larger
Arial Bold Body Text. Larger
change color - go to "Format" select text color click OK.

You can link any pages that are in your "My Website" folder on your
desktop to any text on any page through out your site using the above
method. To create an image link just right click within the image
instead of selected text and follow the same proceedure.
If you create a text or image link that links to a site or page outside
of your own website the process is the same except that you need to
give the full URL starting with http://
So instead of linking to your own pages using just the page's file
name; if you were linking to some other Fish site you would insert the
full address into the "
Link
Location" when filling out the
Link Properties Box:
http://www.someotherdomainname.com/fish_books.html
You should also select the target and set it "To open in new window"
otherwise people will be made to leave your site whilst looking at the
other sites page.
TIP:
Don't forget to save your page frequently to avoid the editor from
crashing.
Remember to check your source code and see what is going on behind the
scenes.
Also check how your page looks in the browser view.
