Kimbro's Australian Home Business Contact

G'DAY,

My name is Kitty and I live on the Gold Coast in sunny  Queensland, Australia.

I run a Home Business Online - Internet Marketing, from the comfort of my home.
I am not affiliated with any travel or tourist agency. However I have traveled Australia extensively,

lived in her cities and her outback. I dearly love this country and  hope to be able to impart to you

a little of the varied flavors of this great land in the following pages.

As this page is a labor of love, an indulgence really, I will keep adding to it as time permits and new

material comes to hand. Therefore I invite you to visit often and contact me if you have any

questions that I may be able to answer for you about Australia.

Birds From Our Home Backyard In Australia.

Attracting Birds to Your Home Back Yard

Afford a  protected area, make fresh water and a safe place to nest available and birds will populate your home yard all year round.

  • Make a constant fresh water source available. Young inexperienced birds will drown in a deep water vessel with slippery sides. Therefore it is best to provide shallow birdbaths with a rough surface. Rocks placed in the water give birds a landing spot which will attract them to the water source you have provided in your home yard.

  • Provide nesting sites by planting  natives in your home back yard. Different species of birds have different preferences when it comes to nesting. Put up birdhouses. Buy or build birdhouses specifically designed for the birds you want to attract. Positioning bird houses at the correct height  [which varies depending on the species of bird] is vital.  Clean out the birdhouses after each nesting season and spray for lice.

  • Provide nesting materials. Leaving a small mound of dry long grass mixed with chicken feathers in a secluded corner of your home backyard will inspire birds to build nests and line bird houses in your home yard.

  • Birdseed, such as white millet, buckwheat, hulled sunflower seeds, thistle, safflower seed, black oil sunflower seed, left out on a platform feeder in your home backyard will attract a lot of birds, especially in winter when food is scarce. The platform feeder should be supported on a pole with a pest guard band as a barrier against rodents and possums.

  • Add landscape plants that attract birds to your home backyard. Birds like a variety of plants, but berry-producing species are especially appealing. So are seed-producing plants, such as sunflower and purple coneflower, as long as you permit the fading flowers to go to seed.

  • Feeding bread can be harmful for birds as they should be consuming high energy foods. Bread gives the birds a false sense of nourishment that prevents them from seeking nutritious foods found in nature.

Gallery Of Pink Galahs - Photo by Ian Walker

The picture below shows a Male and Female Galah sitting side by side, looking quite at home on their bird feeder. The Female birds have lighter colour eyes. These birds are highly intelligent and get up to al sorts of humorous tricks. - Hence the name "GALAH"

CLOWNS OF THE BUSH

 Two Galah’s, my feathered friends,

Decided there and then to make amends.

It happened whilst I was riding by

Beneath a glorious blue Australian sky.

Perched on the bow of a huge dead tree,

As I looked up they silently looked back at me.

Silhouetted in grey and pink,

Their eyes shone bright, they didn’t blink.

I’d been hired to daily ride,

Troublesome horses, through the countryside.

This day I was riding Lillyput,

Humorously named for his seven foot.

I was riding along a flat sandy trail,

Twix salt pans and Spinifex, dead trees showed the way,

The salt had risen through the ground,

And killed all the trees that grew all around.

Lillyput was champing on the bit,

His jig-jogging was giving me a stitch

Therefore I was happy to stop a while,

And watch the birds that made me smile.

Well the two put on a show,

And put to flight a nearby crow,

With crests flung high and flapping wings,

To entertain me they did all manner of things.

I clapped my hands and laughed out loud.

Lillyput instantly hit the ground.

He was a horse that was prone to bolt,

I steadied him, brought him to a halt.

On him the humour had been lost,

As haughtily he gave his head a toss,

When the galah’s alighted on the nearest tree,

Obviously intent on watching me.

Wallanggarra - Painting by Katarina Jellinek - see details in our "ART GALLERY"

Wallangarra “Place Of Many Waters”

The boulder strewn outcrop

Was the home,

Where once wild horses

Used to roam.

Seven years the keeper

Of this brazen land,

Seven years the dreamer

No one could understand.

“Place Of Many Waters”

Named in ancient times,

Death to many walkers

Who couldn’t read the signs.

And you can hear the whispers

On the crisp winter air,

Of a people long forgotten

For their spirits are still there.

Driven from your boundaries

By those too blind to see,

That I really treasured

The land that belonged to me.
