SEO 1. On Page Optimization

SEO On Page Optimization shows you how to format your web pages for optimal position with the search engines.
If you have landed on this page before reading How To Get  TRAFFIC To Your Web Site then please click on the Traffic link above before continuing.

From the previous page "TRAFFIC" you should have a basic understanding of how the "Bot" works.
Our intention with optimizing our web pages is to give clear instruction to the "Bot" as to what our page is about.

HTML [Hyper Text Markup Language]
It is not my intention to teach you about web development languages here. Rather we will cover how to optimise your web pages for the search engines.

If you do not know what HTML is all about I suggest you become a member of MyScribeWeb
This membership site will give you all the info and tools to develop your own websites.
The HTML code {code that constructs web pages and is not visible to the visitor}  instructs the browsers and is read by the "Bots"
The code below is in the <head> section of the page you are reading right now.

<title>SEO 1 - On Page Optimisation</title>
<meta http-equiv="KEYWORDS"  content="seo on page optimization,search engines,position, web, page,head,body.">
<meta http-equiv="DESCRIPTION" content="SEO on page shows how to format your web pages for optimal position with the search engines.">

None of the information between the<head></head> section is visible to the visitor but is vital to instruct the browsers and the "Bot"
The "Bot will Compare the relevance between what is stated in the <head> section and what is contained in the <body> section of your page. The higher the relevance score the Higher your page will be positioned in the search engine results.
The <body> part of the HTML code is what is visible on the page you are now looking at.
So lets look at the relevance of this page your title is the subject of your page
 "SEO 1- On Page Optimization"
and so far there are 4 references made to the title on this page.
  • Next we will take a look at the "Keywords" high - lighted in blue and how many times these keywords are referenced on this page thus far:
  • SEO 1 - On Page Optimization = 5 times
  • Search engines = 5 times
  • position = 5 times
  • web =9 times
  • page =21 times
  • head = 7 times
  • body = 3 times

Depending on how my relevance ratio stacks up against other web pages will determine where my web page will be positioned in the search results.
Note that the Description of the content in yellow contains the title and keywords as well. This is the description that the search engine results will show to the person searching for a particular topic.

Optimizing<body>section [seen by the visitor] part of your page.

in other words don't write about Oranges if your title is Apples. Make sure that the content is relevant to your title and descrption.
DON"T COPY CONTENT FROM OTHER WEB SITES the "Bot" recognises duplicate content and you will lose points!
 Don't submit your web site content to article directories as the "Bot" will then deem your original to be a copy.
Show the "Bot" your headers by enclosing them in header tags i.e.;

This is a header

Format your images to be web ready - heavy images slow down your pages. "Bots" and some browsers don't read images so write a description for your images using the <alt> tag.
In your site construction, try and keep your navigation to a max of two levels the "Bots" don't like to travel deep.
