What's
the Value of a Well
Positioned Site?
In
2003 I
asked several reputable
web developers for a quote to build our KIMBRO site. About to settle
with a developer that quoted $1500. I asked how much it would
cost to optimise the site for a guaranteed top ten position on Google.
The quote instantly jumped to over a staggering $100,000. This quote
was the determining factor for my decision to develop my own site, but
that is another story. I hope that this narration will impress on you
the value of a well positioned site.
Position
= TRAFFIC.
Unless
you are
selling water, I
think you will agree, that a shop in the middle of the Sahara desert is
not going to do much trade. Whereas a shop positioned on the main
street of any
major city in the world will get its fair share of passing trade. I'm
sure you have heard it all before, in the off line world:
"Position,
Position is
everything"
Well
it's no
different in
cyberspace - BEING IN THE
TOP TEN POSITION ON MAJOR SEARCH ENGINES is
the same as having a shop in the main street of all the
major cities in the world.
Forget
the Hype just do it
Right!
So
you may be
thinking to yourself
- "If all the billions of websites are trying to get within the top ten
position and this position is so valuable, what chance have I got? I
don't have a huge budget and I am no web developing expert."
Well
take
heart, I was no web
developer and I did not have a big budget when I started but my KIMBRO
site has consistently turned up within the top ten on Google, MSN and
Yahoo, for its search terms. As a matter of fact it has returned with
the top four results quite often. Also "How To Start A Home Business
Online" is a very competitive arena to work in.
The
screen
shots below show the
results from the major search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN on the 7th
May 2007. I haven't placed them here to blow my trumpet but to show you
that it is not as hard to achieve these results, as some would have you
believe.
